an introduction to inclusive worship

Girl Worshipping

As we kick off worship Wednesdays, I want to introduce a subject we'll be pondering over the next several weeks. What IS true worship? After leading corporate worship for nearly 21 years, I can say without hesitation that there are almost as many answers to that question as there are people worshipping.

Many years ago I walked in on my daughter Jevonne, who was then about four, who was intently drawing something. She was the victim of having been a worship pastor's daughter, so when I asked her  what she was drawing, she confidently told me that she was drawing a picture of what worship looked like...I guess she overheard a few of my conversations.

For all worship may or may not be, particularly in the corporate expression, it must be participatory. 1 Corinthians 14:26 opens up the idea of an organized, but interactive, worship service. "What then shall we say, brothers and sisters? When you come together, each of you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. Everything must be done so that the church may be built up." We will see in coming weeks, though, that this idea is not confined to merely a service, or a moment in time, but it speaks to much more about the way we live our lives.

Did I whet your appetite yet? We have so much to learn about the transformational nature of God's grace, and how worship coming from a place of spirit and truth not only brings glory to Him, but allows Him to change us at our very core if we're willing to take the journey.
